Jules Derks

Erasmus MC Rotterdam, Netherlands

Dr. Derks is a pulmonologist and thoracic oncology specialist with expertise in both rare lung neuroendocrine neoplasms and driver-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) working at the Erasmus MC in the Netherlands. His research focuses on improving cancer diagnosis, molecular characterization, and treatment through translational and precision medicine approaches. He completed his PhD cum laude on Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma (LCNEC) and Lung Neuroendocrine Tumors (LNETs), receiving the Vera Bonta Award for the best lung cancer thesis in the Netherlands and Belgium. His work has led to the development of novel biomarker strategies & molecular subtyping approaches. He currently aims to identify novel therapeutic targets in molecularly defined lung neuroendocrine neoplasms and developing organoid-based models to advance personalized treatment strategies.
